Swansea’s old Castle Cinema is in line for a redevelopment to provide commercial units and apartments. The former cinema is located on Worcester Place and the site is adjoined by Swansea Castle. Now Easy Living has submitted an application to Swansea Council to create a mixed-use scheme of commercial units and 30 apartments. The site would be redeveloped through a combination of partial alteration, refurbishment and extension of the existing building.it is currently occupied as a laser gun combat game and ‘Laserzone’ assault course.Planning documents said the proposal aims to create an “attractive mixed-use scheme”.”The vision for the site is to create high quality residential accommodation for the modernized Swansea City Centre to develop upon the existing stock and provide a contemporary appearance that is similar to adjacent buildings and those throughout Swansea City Centre,” documents said.”The building has developed dilapidated over a number of years and now requires investment to ensure its longevity and is brought into an exciting use,” it said. The documents added that the building has been included in the register of listed buildings at ‘risk’ and without a new and viable use the building “will not be restored and preserved for the future”.A previous scheme for the site comprised 43 apartments alongside commercial uses. However, this was considered “to bulky” in terms of massing and overdevelopment.Proposals were then revised to 30 apartments. The proposed building has also been reduced in scale and massing from partly eight-storey to six-storey.
